What is aromatherapy?
Plant extracts have been used for centuries for their exquisite aromas and natural healing powers. Rich in botanical activity and antioxidants, plant oils encourage radiant, healthy skin, working at a cellular level to keep the complexion soft and looking youthful. By harnessing their therapeutic properties, aromatherapy works to improve our physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Each essential oil comes with its own therapeutic benefits. You can receive aromatherapy spa treatments but for many with today's very busy lifestyles, many choose to experience the benefits of aromatherapy in the comfort of their own home with the use of essential oils and products such as candles. |

Aromatherapy Scents and Why We Choose Them
Roman Chamomile: Roman chamomile, Also known as English or Russian chamomile, is a low growing perennial. Roman Chamomile belongs to the rag weed family and those with a direct allergy to ragweed should try using this essential oil and products containing it with caution, and should always be avoided during pregnancy as a precaution. Whether used directly on the skin, or burned in a scented candle, it’s sure to promote ultimate relaxation. The most sought after benefits of chamomile vary widely from an anti-inflammatory, to a sleep aid, an anti-bacterial agent, to a stress reliever and an antihistamine, it’s known to many as a miracle scent. Its primary benefits include its calming and therapeutic effects, along with its ability to support and enhance the immune system. Present in many natural sleep and stress pill formulas, and in a variety of wax products, the aromatherapy oil actively reduces stress and anxiety – making it easier to switch off, wind down and go to sleep.
Lavender: The name Lavender derives from the Latin root “lavare,” which literally means “to wash.” The earliest recorded use of lavender dates back to ancient Egypt. Lavender is a multipurpose plant. People commonly use lavender in many ways to promote good health and well-being. Lavender is known for its soothing and calming effect. Some of its health benefits include easing anxiety, managing insomnia, and it can even calm down older people with dementia. The scent of lavender decreases heart rate and blood pressure helping you reach a relaxed state. Light up a lavender scented candle or place a handful of dried lavender on your bedside when you set yourself up to sleep. (Caution: Never fall asleep with any candle burning). Lavender has been noted to treat headaches, nervousness and restlessness but further to ease the discomfort of post-surgical pain, joint pains even PMS symptoms.
Peppermint: Peppermint is a perennial herb that boasts natural energy-boosting properties. Interestingly, peppermint (Mentha x piperita) isn’t actually a plant species in itself. Instead, it’s a hybrid of water mint and spearmint, two different species of mint. However, though peppermint has benefited humans for a very long time, it actually took a while for it to be recognized and identified. Peppermint has a cooling, refreshing effect and is widely used to enhance mental alertness. Peppermint although non-toxic can be an irritant to some. It should always be kept away from small children and is not recommended for use while pregnant. While the aroma of peppermint oil can relax you, it can also rejuvenate you. Whether you’re trying to wake up in the morning or jump-start your brain during overtime, peppermint oil is an excellent option to promote clarity and eliminate that feeling of "fogginess" by stimulating the brain naturally.

As a general precaution; aside from pregnancy warnings noted above, it is important to monitor any unusual behaviour in pets of all species when using products such as candles containing pure essential oils.
Periodically, adverse effects have been found to cause unusual reactions and they can't tell us how they are feeling.
